How long should you stay in Istanbul for aesthetic treatment?

By Published: Updated: 6 min readInternational patients

For single-session injectables with Dr. Nil Yazıcı in Istanbul — such as botulinum toxin or fillers — one visit is usually enough, and planning at least 2–3 days in the city allows time for the examination, the treatment and observing early reactions. The review at around two weeks after botulinum toxin or fillers can often be done remotely by photo or video call. Course-based treatments such as mesotherapy or skin boosters need several sessions spread over weeks, so they are timed individually, and your physician will advise on the length of stay that suits your plan.

Start with the treatment, then plan the trip

One of the most common planning mistakes is booking a very short trip and then trying to fit the treatment into it. In aesthetic medicine, the plan should come first: what is appropriate for you, how many sessions it may need and how your skin is likely to respond in the first days. Your travel dates can then be built around that. The guidance below is a general framework; the length of stay recommended for you is confirmed during the online consultation and, finally, at the in-person examination.

A general framework by treatment type

Botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin is a single-session treatment. The effect usually begins within two to three days and reaches its peak at around two weeks. Most people do not need to stay until the peak: a stay of two to three days covers the examination, the treatment and the first day or two afterwards, when small injection marks or mild swelling usually settle. The review at around two weeks, when any fine adjustment is considered, can often be done remotely with photos or a video call. Our article on when Botox starts working explains this timeline in more detail.

Dermal fillers

With hyaluronic acid fillers, some swelling and occasionally bruising are expected in the first days, especially in the lips. For this reason it is usually more comfortable to plan two to three days in Istanbul at minimum, and some people prefer a few days more so that early swelling can be seen in person before they fly. The final result is easier to judge once swelling has settled, typically after about two weeks; this review, too, can often take place remotely.

Mesotherapy, skin boosters and other skin-quality injectables

Treatments such as skin boosters and mesotherapy are often planned as a course of sessions a few weeks apart. Small bumps and pinpoint marks typically settle within a day or so. A single session is quick, so one trip can include the first session, with later sessions planned for a future visit. If you cannot return several times, tell us during the consultation: the plan can sometimes be adapted, but it is better to be realistic about what a reduced number of sessions may achieve.

Multi-session plans: PRP, microneedling and peels

PRP, microneedling and chemical peels usually involve several sessions spaced weeks apart, and some cause visible redness or flaking for a few days. These plans need the most thought for international patients. Options include scheduling sessions around trips you already make to Istanbul, or choosing a plan with fewer, more widely spaced visits where that is medically reasonable. Session intervals and how many times you would need to come are agreed with you before you travel.

Why arriving a day early helps

If your schedule allows, arriving the day before your appointment is worthwhile. A long flight, dehydration and an early start are not ideal before an injectable treatment, and arriving in advance gives you a buffer if a flight is delayed. Equally, placing the treatment early in your stay rather than on the last day leaves time to see how your skin responds before you leave, and to contact the clinic if you have any concerns while you are still in the city.

Combining several treatments in one trip

Some treatments can be combined in the same visit in suitable patients, which can reduce the number of trips. Whether that is appropriate, in what order and with what interval, depends on the physician's assessment. Fitting as many procedures as possible into a short stay is not a good reason in itself: more treatment at once can mean more swelling and a less predictable recovery while you are away from home.

Practical support during your stay

Once your dates are clear, appointments are coordinated around your flights. Depending on what you need, support can include airport transfer, local transport between your accommodation and the appointment, accommodation assistance and an interpreter during the examination and treatment. Details are on the international patients page.

What happens after you leave

Follow-up does not end at the airport. Checks are arranged by photo or video call at agreed points, and you can send questions as they arise. If a touch-up or further session is needed, your next visit is planned around that review. If you experience anything unexpected after returning home — particularly increasing pain or changes in skin colour after a filler — contact your physician promptly and seek local medical care if needed. Frequently asked questions

Can I fly home the day after botulinum toxin or fillers?

For many injectable treatments, travelling soon afterwards is possible. However, swelling and bruising can appear in the first 24–48 hours, so planning your return one or two days after treatment usually makes for a more comfortable experience. Your physician will give advice specific to your treatment.

Do I need to come back to Istanbul for the two-week review?

Not usually. For botulinum toxin and fillers, the review at around two weeks can often be done remotely using photos or a video call. If an adjustment is recommended, the timing of a return visit is discussed with you.

What if my plan needs several sessions but I can only visit once?

Mention this during the online consultation. Depending on your goals, the plan may be adapted or sessions spread across future trips, but a reduced plan may not achieve the same effect, and this is explained honestly in advance.
