Treatment options for the eye area
A tired look around the eyes can have several causes — volume loss, thin skin, pigmentation or expression lines. The right option depends on which of these is the main factor.
A tired appearance around the eyes can be caused by under-eye hollows, thin and dehydrated skin, dark circles or crow’s feet. In suitable patients, under-eye treatments, eye-contour mesotherapy, polynucleotide (salmon DNA) treatments or botulinum toxin for expression lines may be considered. In Istanbul, Dr. Nil Yazıcı examines the structure of the eye area to decide which options may be appropriate.
Options that may be considered
- Under-Eye TreatmentMay be considered in suitable patients with marked under-eye hollows and shadowing, as volume support or treatments focused on skin quality.View Treatment
- MesotherapyMay be considered for thin, dehydrated and tired-looking skin around the eyes, using ingredients suited to this area.View Treatment
- Salmon DNA (Polynucleotides)When skin quality and thinness around the eyes are the main concern, polynucleotide-based treatments may be considered.View Treatment
- Botulinum Toxin (Botox)May be considered in suitable patients for crow’s feet that appear when smiling, to soften muscle movement.View Treatment
This page is for general information and is not a diagnosis. Which option, if any, may suit you is decided after a medical assessment.
What can contribute to it?
- Volume loss
- Loss of volume where the under-eye area meets the cheek can create shadows and a hollow look.
- Thin skin
- The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the face; the blood vessels beneath can contribute to the appearance of dark circles.
- Pigmentation
- Some people have darker colouring around the eyes for genetic or allergic reasons.
- Expressions and lifestyle
- Smiling and squinting can deepen crow’s feet; lack of sleep and a salty diet can increase puffiness.
When a medical evaluation matters
If you have sudden or one-sided swelling around the eye, redness, itching, changes in vision or a drooping eyelid, you need an assessment by an ophthalmologist or dermatologist before any aesthetic treatment. For puffiness that is worse in the morning and eases during the day, ask your doctor about possible causes such as allergies, kidney or thyroid problems.
Frequently asked questions
Which treatment helps with dark circles?
That depends on what is causing them. For shadows caused by volume loss, under-eye treatments may be more relevant; where thin skin is the cause, skin-quality treatments may be preferred. Results tend to be more limited for pigmented dark circles.
Is under-eye filler suitable for everyone?
No. Filler may not be appropriate for people with pronounced eye bags, thin and lax skin or a tendency to frequent swelling. Suitability must always be assessed at an examination.
Can several eye-area treatments be planned together?
Yes, at suitable intervals. For example, botulinum toxin for crow’s feet and mesotherapy for skin quality can be part of the same plan; the order and timing are set by the physician.
