Hair Mesotherapy in Istanbul: Physician-Led Support for Shedding and Thinning

If you are experiencing hair shedding or thinning, Dr. Nil Yazıcı first looks at the possible causes, then discusses with you whether hair mesotherapy is a suitable support. You can start with a consultation – online if you are planning to travel to Istanbul.

Hair mesotherapy is a supportive medical aesthetic treatment for hair shedding and thinning, in which vitamins, amino acids and similar ingredients are delivered into the scalp through micro-injections. The cause of hair loss – such as iron deficiency, thyroid problems, hormonal changes, stress or genetic predisposition – needs to be assessed separately; mesotherapy does not replace treatment of these causes. In Istanbul, Dr. Nil Yazıcı sets the plan based on blood tests and examination findings, and refers to dermatology when needed.

Why a physician’s assessment matters

Why hair loss needs a medical assessment first

Hair loss is often a symptom: iron deficiency, thyroid disorders, hormonal changes, a serious illness or a stressful period, and genetic predisposition can all cause similar complaints. Before starting mesotherapy, Dr. Nil Yazıcı reviews your history and the necessary tests, and refers you to dermatology if there are signs suggesting a scalp condition. That way, mesotherapy is planned for the people it can genuinely help, with the right expectations.

About Dr. Nil Yazıcı

Who may consider it?

Hair mesotherapy may be considered for people whose hair loss has been assessed and who are looking for a supportive treatment.

  • Increased shedding that is seasonal or follows a period of stress
  • Prolonged shedding after childbirth (breastfeeding status is assessed separately)
  • Hair that has become generally thinner and lost volume
  • Early-stage hereditary thinning, as an addition to medical treatment
  • Anyone wanting to support scalp care before or after a hair transplant (in coordination with the surgical team)

What can it help with?

Increased hair shedding
For diffuse shedding triggered by stress, illness, diet or the postpartum period, it can be planned as a support while the cause is addressed.
Thinning hair strands
The aim is to support the scalp, which may help hair look fuller. Responses vary from person to person.
Loss of volume
Where thinning is most visible at the crown and parting, it can be considered alongside other treatments. For an overview of the options, see the hair loss page.

Treatment areas

Hair mesotherapy

Physician-selected vitamins, minerals, amino acids or peptides delivered into the scalp through many superficial micro-injections.

Hair PRP and PRF

Plasma prepared from your own blood and applied to the scalp. It can be planned together with hair mesotherapy or on its own; see the PRP and PRF page for details.

Combined hair plans

Mesotherapy and PRP sessions can be scheduled in sequence, alongside any medical treatment and dietary changes.

How it works

  1. Consultation and history

When the shedding began, how fast it is progressing, family history, past illnesses, childbirth, diet, medication and stress factors are discussed in detail. The scalp and the pattern of hair loss are examined. International patients can go through their history in an online consultation before travelling.

  2. Looking for the cause

If needed, blood tests such as iron stores (ferritin), thyroid function, vitamin levels and hormonal parameters are requested. For sudden or localised hair loss, or loss accompanied by scalp symptoms, a dermatology assessment is recommended.

  3. Treatment

The scalp is cleansed and prepared with antiseptic. The chosen ingredients are delivered into the scalp with fine needles as superficial micro-injections.

  4. Follow-up

Sessions continue at the planned intervals. Because the hair cycle is slow, results are usually assessed after 3–4 months, with photographs for comparison if needed.

Sessions and treatment plan

Your hair mesotherapy plan

Most plans start with 4–8 sessions 1–2 weeks apart, then move to monthly or less frequent maintenance sessions. The number of sessions depends on the type and duration of the hair loss and on any accompanying treatment. If there is an underlying deficiency or condition, correcting it is the most important part of the plan; mesotherapy is positioned as a support to that process.

What to expect, and when

  1. Treatment day

Mild scalp tenderness and small red marks at the injection points are possible; they usually fade within a few hours.

  2. First weeks

No visible change is expected yet. Some people notice temporary fluctuations in shedding.

  3. Months 2–3

In people who respond well, a reduction in shedding may start to become noticeable.

  4. Months 3–6

Hair density and strand quality are assessed together and the plan is updated for maintenance. Responses vary from person to person.

Aftercare

Aftercare is simple, but following a few recommendations in the first 24 hours helps the injection points heal comfortably.

  • Do not wash your hair for the first 12–24 hours.
  • Avoid hair dye, blow-drying, curling irons and heavy styling products on the same day.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools and exercise that makes you sweat heavily for the first 24 hours.
  • Try not to scratch or rub your scalp.
  • Continue any tests, medication or supplements your physician recommends as planned.
  • Contact your physician if redness, swelling or pain increases.

Limits and important considerations

Hair mesotherapy is a supportive treatment and does not give the same response in every type of hair loss.

  • Treating without assessing the cause of hair loss can mean an underlying problem is missed.
  • Hair loss that starts suddenly, is localised (coin-shaped patches), or comes with itching, redness, crusting or pain needs a dermatology assessment first.
  • In advanced hereditary hair loss, new hair is not expected to grow in areas where the follicles are no longer present.
  • The level of scientific evidence varies with the ingredients used; results differ from person to person.
  • It is generally postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • It is not performed while there is an active infection, wound or active dermatitis on the scalp.

Hair mesotherapy if you live abroad

Hair mesotherapy needs sessions spread over several weeks, so on a short visit to Istanbul part of the plan and the review of your test results can be completed, with follow-up continuing online. Because results are judged over months, remote check-ins – for example with comparison photos – are a natural part of the process. Support with appointment planning, airport transfer, accommodation and interpreting is also available; see international patient support.

Frequently asked questions

Will hair mesotherapy stop my hair loss?

In suitable patients, hair mesotherapy can help reduce shedding and support hair quality, but a definite result cannot be guaranteed. Without addressing the cause of hair loss, a lasting result should not be expected from mesotherapy alone.

How many sessions will I need?

Most plans start with 4–8 sessions 1–2 weeks apart, followed by monthly or less frequent maintenance. The number depends on the type of hair loss and how you respond.

When will I see results?

The hair cycle is slow. A reduction in shedding can usually be assessed within 2–3 months, and changes in hair density within 3–6 months.

Do I need blood tests before treatment?

In most cases, yes. Tests such as ferritin, thyroid function and certain vitamin levels help clarify the cause of hair loss. Which tests are needed is decided based on your history and examination.

Can I complete hair mesotherapy if I only visit Istanbul occasionally?

The initial phase involves sessions 1–2 weeks apart, so how much can be done in one visit depends on the length of your stay. At the consultation, the plan is adapted to your travel; part of it can be done in Istanbul, with follow-up continuing online.

Hair mesotherapy or hair PRP?

They are different approaches: mesotherapy uses ready-prepared ingredients, while PRP uses your own plasma. Some plans include both. Which takes priority depends on the type of hair loss and your situation; you will find more on the hair PRP page.

Does it hurt?

Very fine needles are used and most people describe a brief pricking sensation. For sensitive patients, comfort measures can be discussed.

When should I see a dermatologist first?

If the hair loss is sudden and patchy (coin-shaped), if there is redness, crusting, itching or pain on the scalp, if eyebrows or eyelashes are also affected, or if the loss is progressing rapidly, a dermatology assessment is recommended first.

Mesotherapy or PRP? The key differences between the two

Mesotherapy uses ready-prepared ingredients, while PRP uses platelet-rich plasma made from your own blood. Which one suits you depends on your skin's needs and your personal preferences.
