PRP and PRF in Istanbul: A Personal Plan for Face and Scalp

If you prefer a treatment prepared from your own blood, PRP or PRF for the face or scalp can be considered. Dr. Nil Yazıcı first looks at the cause of your concern, then chooses the method and session plan – and for patients travelling to Istanbul, the plan is fitted around your visits.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) are autologous treatments: a small amount of the patient's own blood is separated in a centrifuge and the concentrate is injected into the skin or scalp. They are used to support skin quality on the face and thinning hair on the scalp; results vary from person to person. In Istanbul, Dr. Nil Yazıcı performs PRP and PRF after an examination, with separate plans for the face and for hair.

Why a physician’s assessment matters

Understanding the cause first

Whether PRP will help – especially for hair – depends largely on the cause of the hair loss. That is why Dr. Nil Yazıcı takes a detailed history before treatment, recommends tests or a dermatology assessment when needed, and prefers to postpone treatment when it is not appropriate. For the face, she chooses between PRP and PRF according to the area and the goal. If you would rather not use your own plasma, hair mesotherapy for the scalp and mesotherapy for the face use ready-prepared blends instead.

About Dr. Nil Yazıcı

Who may consider it?

PRP and PRF are considered for suitable patients who prefer a treatment prepared from their own blood:

  • A dull, tired-looking face and reduced skin quality
  • Acne scars whose appearance you would like to improve as part of a plan
  • Women and men noticing diffuse thinning and reduced density of their hair
  • A preference for an autologous option over an external product
  • Anyone who would like treatments such as microneedling enhanced with their own plasma

What can it help with?

Skin quality and dullness
PRP or PRF on the face aims to support skin texture and freshness.
Acne scars
Combined with microneedling, PRP can be part of a plan to improve the look of scarring.
Tired-looking eye area
For the thin skin around the eyes, PRF in particular may be used to support tissue quality.
Thinning hair
For diffuse thinning, the aim is to support the scalp. Sudden, patchy or rapid hair loss should be medically assessed first.

Treatment areas

PRP facial

The plasma is delivered into the face through micro-injections or applied to the surface during microneedling, to support skin quality.

PRF for the face

Prepared without an anticoagulant and at a lower centrifuge speed, PRF contains fibrin. It may be preferred for delicate areas such as the eye contour.

Scalp PRP / PRF

Injected in small amounts into thinning areas; the plan depends on the type of hair loss. See also hair mesotherapy.

Neck and décolletage

In suitable patients, these can be treated in the same session as the face to support skin quality.

How it works

  1. Examination and history

How long you have had the skin or hair concern, how it has developed, your medical history and any medication are reviewed. For hair loss, blood tests or a dermatology assessment may be recommended. International patients can discuss their history in an online consultation and, where relevant, bring recent test results.

  2. Blood draw and preparation

A small amount of blood is taken from the arm and separated in a centrifuge. The preparation method differs depending on whether PRP or PRF is used.

  3. Treatment

In the same session, the prepared plasma is injected into the face or scalp with a fine needle, or applied during microneedling.

  4. Follow-up

Your response is monitored between sessions. Because hair changes more slowly, it is usually assessed after a few months – something that can be done remotely between visits.

Sessions and treatment plan

Session plans for face and hair

For the face, 3 sessions 3–4 weeks apart are usually planned. For the scalp, an initial phase of 3–4 sessions roughly 4 weeks apart is typical, followed by maintenance sessions every few months depending on the response. If hair loss has another cause – such as iron deficiency, thyroid problems or patchy hair loss – that cause needs to be addressed first.

What to expect, and when

  1. Treatment day

On the face, redness and mild swelling at the injection points; on the scalp, some tenderness.

  2. Days 1–3

Redness and tenderness usually ease; small bruises on the face can last a few days.

  3. Face: weeks 3–6

Most people notice changes in skin texture during this period and as the sessions progress.

  4. Hair: months 3–6

Because the hair cycle is slow, the response of the hair can usually be assessed within a few months.

Aftercare

After PRP and PRF:

  • Avoid make-up on the face for the first 12–24 hours
  • After scalp treatment, do not wash your hair or use styling products for the period your physician advises (usually the day of treatment)
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours
  • You may be asked to avoid certain anti-inflammatory painkillers for a short time before and after treatment; never stop your regular medication without consulting your doctor
  • Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol on the day of treatment
  • Use sunscreen on the face regularly

Limits and important considerations

Although PRP and PRF are prepared from your own blood, they are not suitable for everyone:

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Not performed in blood disorders affecting platelet count or function, significant anaemia or clotting disorders.
  • Anyone taking blood thinners must mention this beforehand; any change to medication is made only with the prescribing doctor.
  • Postponed in case of active infection, fever or an inflamed lesion in the treatment area.
  • People undergoing active cancer treatment or with a serious chronic illness need a separate assessment beforehand.
  • For sudden, patchy or rapid hair loss, a dermatology assessment is recommended first; PRP is not effective for every type of hair loss.
  • Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed.

PRP and PRF for patients travelling to Istanbul

PRP and PRF are prepared and used in the same appointment, so each session fits into a single visit. Because a course involves several sessions 3–4 weeks apart, the plan is built around your trips; for hair, progress over the following months can be reviewed through remote follow-up. Online consultation, appointment coordination, airport transfer, accommodation help and interpreter support are available – see international patients.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PRP and PRF?

Both are prepared from your own blood. PRF is obtained without an anticoagulant and at a lower centrifuge speed; because it contains fibrin, the growth factors it contains are thought to be released more slowly. Which one is chosen depends on the area and the goal.

Will PRP stop my hair loss?

PRP is used to support thinning hair in suitable patients; it is not effective for every type of hair loss and results are not guaranteed. With sudden, patchy or rapid shedding, the cause needs to be investigated first.

How many sessions will I need?

For the face, usually 3 sessions 3–4 weeks apart; for hair, 3–4 sessions roughly 4 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions may then be recommended depending on your response.

Is there a risk of allergy, since it is my own blood?

Because it is prepared from your own blood, an allergic reaction to the product itself is not expected. Injection-related side effects such as redness, bruising, tenderness and, rarely, infection can still occur.

How should I prepare for treatment?

It is advisable to have eaten something light and to be well hydrated on the day. You may be asked to avoid certain painkillers for a while; never stop your regular medication without consulting your doctor.

Can PRP be combined with microneedling?

Yes. In suitable patients, PRP can be applied to the face during a microneedling session; this combination is often chosen in plans for skin quality and acne scarring.

When can I wash my hair after hair PRP?

You are usually advised to wait until the end of the treatment day or the following day. Your physician will confirm the exact timing after treatment.
