Treatment options for facial contour
Facial contour comes from how the lips, chin, jawline and cheeks relate to one another. Treatments are planned with the balance of the whole face in mind, not one feature in isolation.
Facial contouring treatments are non-surgical procedures that use hyaluronic acid fillers and, where appropriate, botulinum toxin to support proportion and definition in the lips, chin, jawline and midface. The effect of hyaluronic acid fillers is temporary and varies by area and product. In Istanbul, Dr. Nil Yazıcı assesses the face as a whole to determine which area, if any, should be the priority.
Options that may be considered
- Dermal FillersMay be considered for volume and proportion in the cheeks, midface, temples and folds, after assessing the face as a whole.View Treatment
- Lip FillerMay be considered for lip volume, border definition or symmetry, as a measured plan in keeping with your facial proportions.View Treatment
- Chin FillerMay be considered in suitable patients when the chin looks recessed or short in profile, to support projection and proportion.View Treatment
- Jawline FillerFiller may be considered where jawline definition has been lost; where width is caused by teeth clenching, botulinum toxin may be more relevant.View Treatment
This page is for general information and is not a diagnosis. Which option, if any, may suit you is decided after a medical assessment.
What can contribute to it?
- Age-related volume loss
- Loss of volume in areas such as the cheeks and temples can contribute to a sagging look in the lower face.
- Bone and facial structure
- A receding chin or an undefined jawline can be part of your inherited facial structure.
- Muscle structure
- Prominent chewing muscles (masseters), often linked to teeth clenching, can make the lower face look wider.
- Lip proportions
- Lip volume and the surrounding tissue change with age and differ from person to person.
When a medical evaluation matters
If you have marked jaw asymmetry, a bite problem, or pain or locking in the jaw joint, see a dentist, orthodontist or maxillofacial surgeon first. If you have previously had permanent fillers or facial surgery, it is essential to mention this at your consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Are fillers permanent?
No. Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary; depending on the area, the product and the individual, the effect usually lasts between 6 and 18 months. If needed, they can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
Should one area be treated, or the whole face?
It depends on your facial proportions. Sometimes a single area is enough; sometimes balancing several areas with small amounts gives a more harmonious result. The decision is made together after your examination.
What can be done for a wide jaw caused by teeth clenching?
When the width is due to a prominent chewing muscle, botulinum toxin to the masseter may be considered in suitable patients. The change appears gradually over several weeks; see the botulinum toxin page for details.
